⚠️ Tax on Prize Bond Winnings

All prize bond winnings in Pakistan are subject to withholding tax. Filers pay 15% and non-filers pay 30% on the total prize amount, deducted at the time of payment by National Savings or authorized banks.

How to Claim Your Prize Bond Winnings

If you have verified that your prize bond has won, you must follow the official claim procedures established by the Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS) and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). The claiming channels, timelines, and required documents depend on the prize amount:

Authorized Claim Channels & Payout Timelines

Prize claims are generally lodged after the official draw results are available. National Savings currently states that claims can usually be lodged 3–4 working days after the draw and within six years of the relevant draw. Actual verification and payment processing time may vary depending on the prize amount, claim channel, and applicable procedures.

Required Documents for Prize Claims

📄
Original Winning Bond
Must be intact; photocopy of bond must be attached.
🪪
CNIC / NICOP
Valid, clean copy of applicant's national identity card.
📋
Form & Tax Declarations
Completed claim form (Form F-139) and bank details for transfer.

Rules for Lost, Damaged, or Stolen Prize Bonds

If a prize bond is lost, damaged, or stolen, specific legal guidelines apply:

  • Bearer Bonds: Regular prize bonds are bearer instruments (like cash). The physical possession of the bond is the sole proof of ownership. If a bearer bond is lost, stolen, or misplaced, **no claim can be made**, and no duplicate bond will be issued by the SBP or National Savings.
  • Damaged or Mutilated Bonds: If a bond is physically damaged, torn, or partially burnt but its serial number, denomination, and signatures are clearly legible, you can apply for verification at the SBP-BSC. If approved, the SBP may issue a replacement or authorize payment under their mutilated bond rules.
  • Premium Registered Bonds: Since Premium Bonds (Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 40,000) are registered in the investor's name, ownership is backed by a digital record. If a premium bond receipt is lost or stolen, you can apply for a duplicate receipt at the SBP-BSC after completing the required verification, security bond submission, and reporting processes.

Nominee Claims and Inheritance Rules

For registered Premium Prize Bonds, investors can nominate one or more beneficiaries at the time of purchase. In the event of the bond holder's death:

  • Nomination Clause: The designated nominees can claim the face value and any outstanding prize winnings directly from the SBP-BSC by providing proof of identity, the original death certificate of the holder, and claim forms.
  • Legal Heir (Succession Certificate): If no nominee was registered, or for legacy bearer bonds where the deceased's family seeks redemption under dispute, the heirs must obtain a Succession Certificate from a court of competent jurisdiction or the competent succession authority (such as NADRA) to claim ownership and withdraw the funds.
