FBR Tax Deadline 2026: Filing Extended to October 31
Income Tax Filing Extended to October 31
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the income tax filing deadline in Pakistan for Tax Year 2026 to October 31, 2026. The FBR tax deadline extension gives individuals, businesses, companies, and other taxpayers additional time to submit their income tax returns.
The latest FBR deadline extension follows requests from trade bodies and tax bar associations, which had highlighted difficulties faced by taxpayers during the tax return filing process.
FBR Income Tax Filing Deadline 2026
The FBR had previously extended the income tax return deadline from September 30 to October 15, 2026. However, business associations and tax representatives continued to request an extension to the income tax filing deadline in Pakistan.
Taxpayers who have not yet completed their FBR income tax return filing should use the additional time to prepare their documents and submit their returns before the revised deadline.
Under the latest announcement, the deadline for filing income tax returns for Tax Year 2026 has been extended to October 31, 2026.
Why Did FBR Extend the Tax Return Deadline?
The FBR tax deadline extension came after trade bodies and tax bar associations requested additional time for taxpayers to fulfil their tax obligations.
Business representatives highlighted several challenges, including technical problems with the FBR IRIS portal, changes to income tax return forms, additional disclosure requirements, and difficulties reconciling wealth statements.
These issues reportedly affected traders, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and tax consultants who were trying to complete their income tax returns within the original deadline.
The additional time is intended to help taxpayers complete the tax return filing process and meet their applicable tax obligations.
Tax Experts Raise Concerns About Tax Year 2026 Return Forms
Some tax experts argued that taxpayers needed more time because the final income tax return forms for Tax Year 2026 were notified relatively late.
The draft return forms were circulated through SRO 835(I)/2026 on May 7, 2026, while the final forms were notified through SRO 1495(I)/2026 on September 2, 2026.
Tax expert Fazal Faraz, speaking to Business Recorder, argued that taxpayers should be given adequate time to file their income tax returns after the final forms were notified.
These concerns added to calls for an extension of the FBR income tax filing deadline.
Business Associations Request FBR Deadline Extension
Several business organisations requested the government and the Federal Board of Revenue to extend the income tax return deadline in Pakistan.
Sheikh Umer Rehan, president of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), called for additional time, citing technical glitches and slow processing on the FBR IRIS portal.
Representatives of the Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry (HCSTSI) also urged the finance minister and FBR chairman to extend the tax filing deadline.
They highlighted difficulties involving new return forms, additional disclosure requirements, wealth statement reconciliation, and technical problems with the online tax filing system.
How to File Income Tax Returns Through the FBR IRIS Portal
The Integrated Revenue Information System (IRIS) is the Federal Board of Revenue's official online platform for income tax return filing and related tax services.
Taxpayers can access the FBR IRIS portal to submit their income tax returns and complete the applicable filing requirements.
Before submitting an income tax return for Tax Year 2026, taxpayers should review their income details, expenses, supporting documents, and wealth statement information where applicable.

What Should Taxpayers Do Before October 31, 2026?
Taxpayers who have not yet filed their income tax returns should prepare the required documents and complete the filing process as early as possible.
The FBR tax deadline extension provides additional time, but taxpayers should not wait until the final day to submit their returns. They should also check the latest official FBR announcements for any further changes to the income tax filing deadline.
