How to Buy Prize Bonds in Pakistan: A Complete Step-by-Step Guide
Introduction: Buying Prize Bonds in Pakistan
Prize bonds in Pakistan are one of the most secure investment instruments, backed fully by the Government of Pakistan. However, the procedure for purchasing them varies significantly depending on whether you are buying regular bearer prize bonds or registered Premium prize bonds. This guide breaks down the verified purchase channels, required documentation, and current regulations.
💡 Prize Bonds are a risk-free investment backed 100% by the Federal Government of Pakistan.
1. How to Buy Regular Bearer Prize Bonds (Rs. 100, 200, 750, 1500)
Regular bearer prize bonds are non-registered investments, meaning whoever holds the physical bond certificate owns it. They can be purchased over the counter at the following authorized locations:
- State Bank of Pakistan Banking Services Corporation (SBP-BSC) Offices: SBP-BSC branches in major cities across the country provide direct cash-to-bond exchange services.
- Designated Commercial Bank Branches: Authorized commercial banks throughout Pakistan are permitted by SBP to sell and buy regular prize bonds over the counter.
- National Savings Centers (CDNS): Centers of the Central Directorate of National Savings sell all active regular denominations directly to the public.
✅ Regular bearer prize bonds can be purchased and redeemed easily over the counter.
2. How to Buy Premium Registered Prize Bonds (Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 40,000)
Unlike regular bearer bonds, Premium Prize Bonds are registered in the investor's name. This offers enhanced security, as winnings are directly credited to the registered holder's bank account, and the bond cannot be claimed by anyone else if lost or stolen. Verified Purchase and Registration Channels:
- SBP-BSC Offices: You can submit the official application form at any State Bank of Pakistan Banking Services Corporation office.
- Authorized Commercial Bank Branches: Designated branches of major commercial banks are authorized to accept Premium Prize Bond registration and investment applications.
Note: National Savings Centers are not currently verified channels for Premium Registered Prize Bonds. They must be purchased and registered through SBP-BSC or authorized commercial banks.
🔒 Premium Registered Bonds link directly to your CNIC and bank account for automatic payouts.
Required Documents for Premium Bonds
To register and buy Premium bonds, you need to provide:
- A completed Premium Prize Bond Application Form.
- A copy of your valid Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) or NICOP.
- Active bank account details (including IBAN) where bi-annual profit and prize winnings will be directly credited.
- A valid mobile number registered in your name.
📋 Bi-annual profit and prize winnings are directly credited to the holder's bank account.
3. Are Digital Prize Bonds Available Online?
A common question is whether you can buy prize bonds online in Pakistan. While the Government has announced the upcoming launch of Digital Prize Bonds (to be managed via a dedicated mobile app and digital wallets), this initiative is not currently live for retail purchases. Currently, registered Premium bonds link to your bank account for payout purposes, but the initial purchase still requires physical branch registration. Standard bearer bonds cannot be purchased online. Beware of unauthorized third-party websites or apps claiming to sell prize bonds digitally.
⚠️ Digital Prize Bonds are an announced government initiative and not yet live for retail purchase.
